Wall and Wall has been contacted by the Kimpton Hotel in Japan Town, San Francisco, to update their parking garage entrance. We previously created a mural for their space back in 2016, when the hotel was still known as the Buchanan Hotel. The new artwork was created for the rebranded Hotel Enso and was inspired by the Japanese concept of Enso, which represents a circle or circle of togetherness. This symbol is traditionally drawn with a single brushstroke and is one of the most common subjects in Japanese calligraphy. Our mural reflects the themes of simplicity, strength, the circle of life, connection, letting go of expectations, and the beauty in imperfection, which are all embodied by the Enso symbol.
To ensure that the mural is consistent with the hotel’s brand, we incorporated some of the iconic landmarks in the neighborhood and used some of the colors from the hotel’s interiors. The result is a cohesive and visually appealing artwork that reflects the hotel’s brand and Japanese culture.
